Demeter

Demeter has an ancient story which describes the changing of the seasons. Her daughter Persephone was abducted by Hades and taken to the underworld. Goddess Demeter traveled the world with these two torches searching for her daughter but couldn't find her. Since Demeter is the goddess of harvest, this dilemma caused crops to fail and led to famine and other such chaos. Zeus eventually stepped in and ordered Hades to return Demeter's daughter Persephone to Olympus. Hades agreed, but before he let her go he had her eat a pomegranate fruit, and somehow this fruit cursed her - causing it so she had to return to Hades for a third of every year to be with Hades (as apparently he had the hots for her).
